What is Master Pattern

In the PCB industry, a master pattern refers to an accurately scaled drawing that serves as a template for producing a PCB with the desired accuracy specified in the master drawing. It depicts the circuit traces, pads, and holes for each layer of copper on the PCB. The master pattern is typically created using specialized software or CAD tools.

Master pattern guides the manufacturing process of the PCB. It provides a visual representation of the desired circuit layout and includes crucial information such as dimensions, positions, and connections of the circuit elements. Manufacturers can ensure the accuracy and quality of the final PCB by following the pattern.

In the past, circuit boards were photo-etched directly from a master pattern created on mylar film. With advancements in technology, this method has become less common. Nowadays, PCBs are typically manufactured using more efficient and precise methods.
