What is Border Area

A border area is the designated space surrounding a PCB panel during the manufacturing process. This border area is intentionally included in the production panel to accommodate tooling holes and provide room for mounting the PCB to equipment. Typically, the border area measures one inch on all sides.

Border area ensures the mechanical stability of the panel and facilitates the assembly process. It serves as non-functional material outside the actual PCB circuit design, allowing for clamping and securing the panel during assembly operations. By incorporating a border area, manufacturers can effectively handle and manipulate the PCB panel without risking damage to the actual circuitry.

Border area is distinct from the PCB circuit design itself and is solely intended to support the manufacturing and assembly processes.
